Dream Design and the City of Spearfish Complete First 30 Homes at Sky Ridge

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Dream Design and the City of Spearfish have completed construction on the first 30 homes at the Sky Ridge Development. Each of these homes has been sold to eligible buyers, including first responders and teachers.

“In early 2020, Spearfish City officials and Dream Design took on a very ambitious project in the Sky Ridge Work Force Housing Development. Despite working through the challenges of COVID and other challenges, today, there are 30 finished homes with local working people realizing the dream of homeownership,” said John Senden, Mayor of Spearfish.

These homes are part of the city and Dream Design’s commitment to providing affordable and high-quality housing options for families and individuals in the Spearfish community. All homes are priced under South Dakota First-Time Homebuyer’s maximum purchase price.

The team broke ground on the first home in Sky Ridge in December of 2021. Through all the challenges with supply chain and labor force shortages, construction has been moving forward quickly, with the first homeowner moving in July of 2022. The first resident of Sky Ridge was a first-time homebuyer and a local teacher who was grateful for the opportunity to buy a home, as it had become increasingly difficult over the last few years.

Throughout the last several months, the dream of homeownership in Spearfish became a reality for many individuals. Luke Johnson, an addiction counselor and Spearfish native, is one of those people who was able to make his dream come true.

“A home in Sky Ridge was the best option for me and my family,” expressed Luke. With a two-month-old baby and a couple of dogs in the Johnson household, the safety and amenities offered by the development were particularly appealing to him and his wife.

“It’s been great living here so far. The house is built well, and we have brand-new appliances and a garage. Our family has been really happy.”

Sky Ridge, located off Exit 17 on I-90, is a partnership between Dream Design International and the City of Spearfish to create workforce housing in the area. The development will have 178 homes when complete.

In addition to housing, the development features a 40-acre sports complex with soccer and softball fields that will be used this summer. With over 800 adult softball players and 600 youth soccer and softball players in the area, this complex will be able to accommodate both the present and future needs of the Spearfish community.

Dream Design is currently constructing the next phase of homes, resulting in a total of 60 or more homes in Sky Ridge upon completion of this phase.
