Box Elder’s New Downtown Sees Steady Progress

Buildings and homes are going up fast at Liberty Plaza in Box Elder. With the B-21 bringing in approximately 1,500 service members to the community, Liberty Plaza is a project to create the city’s first Main Street with retail, restaurants, coffee shops, and a new recreational facility called Liberty Center.

Liberty Center is near completion and will be finished this fall. Members of the military, military families and civilians will be able to utilize the new facility. Liberty Center includes an indoor track, space for exercise equipment and weights, two basketball courts, group instruction rooms, and space for community and military events. This facility will also be utilized by service members for physical training and certification.

Liberty Plaza will provide nearly 700 quality housing units for the new service men and women joining our community. The Union apartments and several single-family homes are currently under construction.

Liberty Plaza will be one of the most incredible developments in western South Dakota. Along with all the growth we’re going to see in the military population, more non-military folks are going to want to make their way here to put down roots in this up-and-coming community.
